Criteria for the Stellhorn & Waldron New Jersey Studies Student Awards

Nominations for the Stellhorn & Waldron New Jersey Studies Student Awards are 

due June 15

The Stellhorn & Waldron New Jersey Studies Student Awards recognizes excellence in New Jersey studies. This award honors the outstanding and much-loved historians of New Jersey, the late Paul A. Stellhorn and Richard "Dick" Waldron.

This award is given in four categories:

• High School Project in New Jersey Studies

• Undergraduate Research Project in New Jersey Studies 

• Undergraduate Senior Thesis in New Jersey Studies

• Graduate Student Research Project in New Jersey Studies

Submission Criteria

• Project may be about any subject relating to New Jersey studies regardless of location of institution

• Projects may be self nominated or by an advisor, but must be accompanied by a letter of recommendation from an advisor that addresses the quality and originality of the submission

• The project must have been created within the last three (3) calendar years

• Materials must be received by Carla Cevasco at carla.cevasco@rutgers.edu by June 15

Evaluation Criteria

The project will be evaluated on its narrative strength, the thoroughness of its author’s research, and the analysis of the project’s subject. A nominated project should, therefore, tell a good story, explain its subject’s significance to New Jersey and how the subject has changed over time, and utilize a broad array of relevant primary and secondary sources.

NOTE: The NJSAA has established the Marc Mappen Student Research Scholarship to assist high school and undergraduate research and writing projects. Receipt of a Mappen Scholarship is NOT a requirement for the Stellhorn & Waldron New Jersey Studies Student Awards.
